Do you need an in-depth study aid for the PLT? Spend time reading Principles of Learning and Teaching Study Guide: Practice & Review available on reserve in the AU Library. Published by the Educational Testing Service, it has many sample test questions and several case studies in it.

ETS has developed study guides for other tests as well -- visit their web site for a list.

Has It Been a Long Time Since You've Taken Educational Psychology?

Click here to view an introduction to concepts found on the
Principles of Teaching and Learning
(PLT) test!

Please Note the Following

  • This tutorial is not meant to be the only study material that you use when preparing for the PLT!
  • Be sure to use your notes, books, etc. and plan on more material being on the exam than just the information in this tutorial.
  • Consider it a beginning point for your studying!
The Power Point tutorial includes information relevant to educational psychology and tips for taking the test.

You move through the program by pressing the arrows located on or below each Power Point slide or by clicking on the various links.

Send Me Your Comments!

Praxis II  PLT Test Prep

Be sure to attend the preparation sessions held several weeks before each Praxis II exam.  We've revamped them so that you'll have a "hands-on" experience that includes taking sample tests, discussing study skills and strategies. Given your site (Ashland, Elyria, etc.), look for the times and locations of the sessions in e-mails and posted flyers. All of the following seminars are identical, you need only attend one session.

Do you need to know the passing scores for various tests? Check out the Ohio site on the Praxis Test Preparation site.

Are You Planning to Teach
in Another State?

Other states that have an interstate agreement with the state of Ohio. Scroll down the page to see individual states' listings. Also, find out the licensure tests required by many states by clicking on the appropriate state provided by ETS.

Additional information about licensing & certification can be found at the Ohio Department of Education's Office of Licensure Web site.  Check out the site's FAQs -- excellent information!

Are You Registering for the Praxis II Tests?

Make sure you are applying for the appropriate test(s)!

Plan to take only one test per day.  While students often take 2 and even 3 tests per day, it is difficult to do your best when you're undertaking a "test marathon."

You may want to take the "content" area tests while you are taking content area related courses and the PLT during your student teaching experience.

Testing accommodations can be made.  If you have appropriate documentation, you may be given additional time, etc. when taking the tests. For more information, refer to the ETS web site Test Takers with Disabilities. If English is not your first language, be sure to read Examinees Whose Primary Language Is Not English for a possible extension in the amount of time you have to complete a given test.

While you do not have to have passed all applicable Praxis II exams to graduate from Ashland University, you do need to have done this in order to get a teaching license.
