Course Description: Prerequisite: FL 272.
Optional and highly recommended: Crow, John A. (1985). Spain: The Root and the Flower, Berkeley: University of California Press. ISBN: 0-520-05133-5
Course outcomes:
The
primary goal of Hispanic Civilization I: Spain is to present a broad
survey of Spanish Civilization. Therefore, the outcomes are more
knowledge-based than linguistic. Because language is used to learn
content, however,
outcomes can be expressed in terms of both language and culture. The
Ashland
University Proficiency Guidelines/Civilization
provide the target outcomes. Students will also demonstrate
information literacy in the discipline in the search for, acquisition
of, and evaluation of relevant and reliable knowledge sources.
The course will have a lecture format. The required text will serve as the basis for lectures and readings. Audio and visual materials will be used to support the themes. The instructor will assign additional readings on the World Wide Web and additional videos to be viewed outside of class. Students will have the opportunity to develop and expand their knowledge of Spanish civilization in the compilation of a notebook for the course and the investigation of current issues.Course Components: Evaluation/Assessment
