You
Be the Illustrator: Children's Art Exhibit
Would your students enjoy having their art work professionally displayed to teachers, librarians, artists, publishers, and community members? Do our students enjoy illustrating and interpreting picture books long after you have finished reading? If so, this project is for your classroom. Encourage and assist your students to enter the You Be the Illustrator children's art exhibit. Part of The Art of the Picture Book Conference being held at Ashland University, May 12 and 13, 2006, this exhibition is open to all interested K - 6 students. Participating students will be asked to interpret a picture book of their choosing, illustrating a favorite scene or story. Students should be encouraged not to simply copy or represent the existing artwork, but to think about how they would illustrate a page, character, or event. Illustration styles may range from realistic to abstract expression. Students are free to use the media of their choice, as long as the finished product may be displayed upright. All artwork should be mounted on heavy paper or poster board with one of the provided labels secured to the back.
Interested
in participating? There are a few rules pertaining to the Children's
Art Exhibit and "The Art of the Picture Book."
Each student selected to have their artwork displayed will receive a certificate of participation from the conference program committee.
