- Bioinformatics; occurrence and evolution of toxins
- Role of stress proteins in cellular dysfunction
- Effects of toxicants on oxidative phosphorylation
- Cellular mechanisms of toxicity
- Comparative toxicology of mammalian and nonmammalian species

Science education activities
- Kettering Science Scholars. A cooperative program with the Ashland City Schools, where 8th graders come to the University once a month to participate in a laboratory activity under the guidance of university professors. The program has recently been expanded to include high school age alumni of the program.
- The Science Resource Room concept: Enhancing the teaching of "hands-on" science in elementary schools. A description of the development and implementation of a Science Resource Room at an elementary school.
- First steps down the path of discovery: planning and teaching hands-on science in the elementary classroom. A description of an in-service workshop that presents strategies for making hands-on science in the elementary classroom a positive experience for both teachers and students.
